Why is the Tacoma coming back to San Antonio?
For many of us in Texas, the Toyota Tacoma is more than just a truck: it’s a daily companion for work and weekend adventures. While the San Antonio plant has been the proud home of the full-size Tundra and the Sequoia SUV, the Tacoma production was previously shared with facilities in Mexico.
The big news in this expansion is that Toyota is moving Tacoma production from its Baja California plant back to San Antonio over the next four years. Having the “triple threat” of the Tundra, Sequoia, and Tacoma all built right here in our backyard is a massive logistical and economic win.
This move isn’t just about nostalgia; it’s about efficiency and meeting the high demand for mid-size trucks in the U.S. market. A new 500,000-square-foot rear axle plant is also slated to start production this fall, ensuring that the components for these vehicles are as local as the people building them.
